FAQs

What is cosmetic dentistry?

The term cosmetic dentistry is used to encompass a variety of treatment options, all with the same goal – to improve the appearance of your smile. This can be achieved in many different ways, and often more than one option will be required to achieve your final result. These options may include teeth whitening, white fillings, orthodontics, porcelain crowns or veneers, or dental implants.

What is the difference between Sydney Cosmetic Dentistry and other dental practices?

Sydney Cosmetic Dentistry is part of Sydney Cosmetic Sanctuary, a purpose-built facility dedicated to wellness and cosmetic treatments for your whole body. This allows us to not only give you the highest level of care for your dental requirements but also facilitate any other cosmetic or non-cosmetic treatment that you may be considering or that may further enhance the results of your dental procedures.

All of the practitioners in Sydney Cosmetic Sanctuary are highly trained medical and dental professionals. Our treatments are evidence-based and proven to work. Our practitioners are highly experienced and qualified in all aspects of their treatment specialities. During your consultation, you will be guided through any option that they believe will benefit you in order to achieve your cosmetic desires.

If you have concerns regarding other aspects of your body or are interested in other cosmetic options, our staff at Sydney Cosmetic Sanctuary can arrange consultations from various other specialities on the same day. All treatments can be arranged discreetly and conveniently for you.

At Sydney Cosmetic Dentistry, our main goal and treatment options centre around the aesthetics and appearance of your teeth. We are happy to provide other general dental treatment that you require as part of your overall care as our focus is always on giving you the most beautiful healthy teeth as possible.

We work closely with a state-of-the-art dental laboratory, which will provide you with beautifully natural looking porcelain work. Your new smile will be individually created to give you the appearance you have always wanted.

Do you use amalgam or metal fillings?

Amalgam was used as a dental filling material for many years. However, its use has decreased significantly over time due to the availability of better and more aesthetic materials – such as resin composites. Teeth with amalgam fillings tend to crack and break down over time. In contrast, due to the material properties of newer white fillings, there is less damage to the tooth structure over a long period of time. These include dental inlays and onlays.

There is some discussion regarding the quantity of mercury in amalgam fillings. Research has shown that there is no harm to an individual with silver fillings, since the quantities of mercury present are insignificant. The difference in aesthetics can be very obvious for some people when they smile, depending on the location and size of their amalgam fillings. There are options to replace and change these which we will be happy to discuss.

How long do crowns and veneers last?

The porcelain which crowns and veneers are made from are highly stain resistant and wear well. All of our porcelain work is made in a state-of-the-art dental laboratory here in Sydney.

However, all dental treatment has a lifespan and will need to be replaced or fixed over time. Generally speaking, veneers will last around ten years, and crowns around fifteen. This also requires routine care and regular check-ups to maintain the integrity of your porcelain dental work.

Why do I need a night guard?

A lot of people will grind in their sleep without realising it. Some people may wake up with muscle pain in their jaws. This grinding motion can cause fractures in porcelain work, resulting in chips or breaks. The teeth which have been veneer or crowned can also wear down the opposing teeth with natural enamel.

For this reason we will always advise a night guard to protect your new porcelain work and to protect your remaining teeth. You will find that your muscles will be more relaxed in the mornings, resulting in fewer headaches, and your teeth will remain stronger for longer. Patients who are eligible for our Diamond Premium experience package also receive a complimentary night guard as part of their treatment.

If I need treatment, involving a variety of cosmetic options, can this be organised for me?
